Sven Marquardt took portraits of the members of the Palace's international ensemble immediately after a performance. While in some of the faces and poses the adrenaline rush is still visible, in other images Marquardt succeeds in creating intimate snapshots of his models. He unadornedly shows the transition from the dramatic, mask-like stage roles to the strained and tired faces of the dancers after the show. The images oscillate between appearance and reality, reflecting tension and exhaustion, pride and disappointment. Not even half a year after the shooting, the portrayed artists are missing the stage, because due to the Corona pandemic all performances at the Palast had to be cancelled. Nevertheless, the Friedrichstadt-Palast Berlin invited to a guest performance by transforming itself into an exhibition venue to give its visitors a photographic look behind the scenes.
