The Folkwang Museum was founded in Hagen in 1902. In 1922, the newly founded Folkwang-Museumsverein acquired its extraordinary collection for the city of Essen. It is the foundation for today's Museum Folkwang, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in Essen in 2022 with a ceremony, exhibitions, a 24-hour summer festival and many other events.
