Bae Bien-U – Windscape
Hatje Cantz Verlag / Ostfildern, Germany
South Korean Bae Bien-U, probably his country’s most renowned contemporary photographer, attained international fame with his extraordinary, meditative landscapes. The images in this book are dedicated to the topic of wind. Bae approaches his invisible subject through pictures of clouds, grasses, trees and water, presented in a contemplative, very Korean visual language. The pictures are all shown in the same size in order to adequately represent their extreme horizontal and vertical formats. The wind theme is also reflected in the choice of material for the dust jacket—transparent paper printed on the reverse to create an airy and intangible impression.
